Over-optimism? |

Update 23 June 2007: We are one week short of our local's unnecessary closure five years ago. We are 15 months on from the Inspector's decision that we were - and still are - right to believe that Ben Rhydding needs its pub re-opening. Why then is it not yet open? Only Punch can answer that question, and they will not. Can there be hope - against hope - that they will use July 1st (or Monday 2nd) to announce the plans for its re-opening, on that 5th anniversary? Do not hold your breath. Update Mar 15, 2007: We continue to believe that things are happening behind the scenes, but Punch are currently staying tight-lipped about everything. We cannot confirm or deny anything, but remain optimistic that the pub will reopen. The Appeal Decision in our favour was made public a year ago - on March 15 2006 - and everyone is wondering why it should take all this time to work out what to do. Update: 24 Feb, 2007: We really do not know what the hold-up is. No news from Punch, yet there were some positive indications earlier in January. Optimism seems justified that The Wheatley will reopen before the summer, but the longer we go without news, the more worried we become. Update: 27 Nov, 2006: Despite a suggestion that plans for the pub would be forthcoming in 2006, it is now thought that Punch's plans will not be revealed until January 2007. The Appeal Decision in our favour was made public on March 15 [2006], and we are left wondering why it should take all this time to work out what to do. |
